Home Run (Sears title is Baseball) is a 1978 sports video game for the Atari 2600 that attempts to simulate baseball, albeit with significant simplifications compared to the real sport. Key differences include the absence of fly balls, independent fielders, and a pitcher’s mound. The pitcher stands at second base, and there are only one to three players on each team, depending on the selected game mode.
Fielders must run with the ball to tag players out, as throwing the ball to force players out is not an option. When the pitcher or one of the infielders catches the ball, all players except the baserunners and the ball-catcher disappear from view. The home team always bats at the bottom of the 9th inning, regardless of their current score, and there are no extra innings in case of a tie.
While Home Run may not provide an accurate representation of baseball, it offers a simplified and more accessible version of the game for Atari 2600 players.
