“Brain Games” is a compilation of memory-focused video games developed by Larry Kaplan and published by Atari, Inc. This collection includes 19 different games, challenging players with tasks involving sequences of numbers, symbols, and musical notes. Each game offers various settings to adjust the difficulty, introducing different levels of complexity.
The games are categorized as follows:
- Touch Me (Games 1โ4): Inspired by the 1974 arcade game of the same name and a precursor to the handheld game Simon, players must replicate a sequence of tones, with the game adding an additional note with each round, aiming for a streak of 32 notes.
- Count Me (Games 5โ8): This game challenges players to recall and sequence a series of numbers presented by the computer, which adds a new digit to the sequence after each successful round.
- Picture Me (Games 9โ10): Players must remember the locations of various picture sets before the computer shuffles them, testing memory and recognition skills.
- Find Me (Games 11โ14): The objective is to spot minor differences in patterns or figures flashed briefly on the screen.
- Add Me (Games 15โ18): This involves calculating the sum of numeric digits displayed by the computer, focusing on arithmetic skills.
- Play Me (Game 19): Converts the 12-button keypad controller into a musical instrument, allowing players to perform tunes like “Happy Birthday to You,” “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” and “Three Blind Mice.” With two controllers, a duet of “Row Your Boat” can be played.
In addition to these memory exercises, players face timed challenges that include “diabolical distractions” such as sudden loud noises to test concentration and recall under pressure.
