Final Approach is an air traffic control simulation game for the Atari 2600, where you play as an air traffic controller responsible for guiding planes to land safely at an international airport.
The game consists of two main screens:
- Approach Control Radar (ARC) screen: On this screen, you must guide the aircraft using the cursor, ensuring they follow the yellow line towards the black stripe, and avoid collisions with other planes or flying off-screen. Pay attention to any flashing planes accompanied by an emergency sound, as they must be given priority for landing.
- Ground Control Approach (GCA) screen: After guiding the plane near the black stripe on the ARC screen, move the cursor to the center red light and press the button to access the GCA screen. Here, you must align the plane’s nose with the glide slope and localizer before it reaches the end of the runway. A successful landing will remove the plane from the ARC screen, and a new one will appear to replace it. If the landing is unsuccessful, the plane will remain on the ARC screen when you return to it.
Final Approach tests your strategy, decision-making, and quick reflexes as you juggle multiple planes simultaneously and ensure their safe landing.
