Golf, a 1980 video game released by Atari for the Atari VCS (Atari 2600), features a light green area representing the hole and medium blue areas for everything outside the hole. Larger holes display a dark green circle with the hole close to the center. Obstacles such as trees, sand traps, and water features may appear.
On difficulty A, out-of-bounds balls remain there and must be hit back in, while on difficulty B, they stick to the edge. Balls can fly over water or, if landing in it, be placed back at the shot’s origin. Balls in sand traps stick to the sides and require a stronger swing for removal.
Players use a single club, with the fire button’s hold time determining the power and distance of the shot. The golfer can move anywhere on the field, with the club always facing the ball.
The objective of the larger hole is to reach the green. Upon reaching it, the game zooms in to show a light green circle as the green and a black dot as the hole. After completing a hole, the player proceeds to the next one.
