Othello for the Atari 2600 is a video game adaptation of the classic board game, also known as Reversi. Developed and published by Atari, the game offers both single-player and competitive two-player modes, allowing players to challenge the computer or a friend.
Set on an 8×8 grid, the objective of the game is to capture as many of the opponent’s pieces as possible by surrounding them with your own pieces. When a piece is captured, it flips to the capturing player’s color. The game continues until the board is filled or no legal moves remain, and the player with the most pieces of their color on the board wins.
The Atari 2600 version of Othello includes four different skill levels, catering to players of varying experience and ability. Additionally, the game allows players to create custom board setups by placing pieces on the board manually, offering the opportunity to explore different strategies and scenarios. Players can also choose whether to go first or let their opponent take the opening move.
