Vong

Vong is a 2008 Atari 2600 homebrew by Rick Skrbina. It plays like Pong, but the court is turned 90 degrees, so the paddles sit at the top and bottom of the screen and the ball travels up and down. It is a simple, quick paddle game for one player against the computer or two players against each other. You can play it here in your browser.

How to play Vong online

Vong uses the Atari paddle controllers. The emulator switches to paddle mode automatically.

  • Move your paddle: left and right arrow keys
  • Choose one or two players: F11 (Select)
  • Start a new game: F12 (Reset)
  • Small or large paddles: F4 (left difficulty switch)
  • Switch between paddle and joystick mode: Alt + L

Gameplay

You score by getting the ball past your opponentā€™s paddle. Game 1 is a single-player match against the computer, and Game 2 is for two players. The left difficulty switch sets the paddle size: A gives small paddles for a harder game, B gives large ones. Vong has six modes in total, and two of them are hidden.

There is also an Easter egg. In the single-player game, with either paddle size, hold down the paddle button and the computerā€™s paddle becomes unbeatable, so you can no longer score against it.
