Gameplay
Your dragon starts in its den and has to flap its way out into the world. Out there it meets spiders, bats, birds, bee swarms, griffins, hydras, fire demons and more. Most of them leave a crystal behind when you burn them: an Air, Water or Fire crystal depending on the creature. Weak enemies fall to a single fireball, while the tougher ones need two or more, and they take more hits as the game goes on. Stalactites cannot be destroyed at all, so you simply have to fly around them.
A fresh dragon has at least ten fireballs and can take about ten hits. Once the fireballs are used up you cannot fight back, and once its strength is gone the next touch from an enemy is fatal. Carry crystals back to the den and they are dropped off automatically. The twist is that Fire and Water cancel each other out: you have to bring them home in the order Fire, Air, Water or Water, Air, Fire. Get all three and they combine into a Super crystal, which also lets your fireballs travel further. The biggest prize is a diamond, reached by a risky flight through a secret passage once you have built up Super crystals. Dragon eggs found outside earn you extra lives.
| Brought to the den | Points |
|---|---|
| Air crystal | 50 |
| Water crystal | 50 |
| Fire crystal | 100 |
| Super crystal | 1,000 |
| Diamond | 5,000 |
Tips
- Plan your crystal order. If you are carrying Fire home, make Air your next pickup, never Water.
- Count your fireballs. Tougher enemies soak up several shots, so avoid them when you are running low.
- Collect eggs whenever you can. They are your only way to get extra dragons.
The flap-to-fly controls remind many players of the arcade game Joust, but the crystal-ordering puzzle and the open exploration give Wing War its own character.
