Robert Zdybel, also listed on this site as Rob Zdybel, programmed two very different Atari 2600 games found here. Stellar Track (1980) brings the text-based Star Trek game of university mainframes to the console: you hunt an alien fleet across a 6×6 galaxy, turn by turn. It was sold only by Sears. RealSports Football (1982) is five-a-side American football; Atari had asked for all 22 players, which he said the 2600 could not move. He also worked on Pigs in Space.

Stellar Track

Stellar Track is a turn-based space strategy game for the Atari 2600, programmed at Atari by Rob Zdybel and sold only by Sears under its Tele-Games label. It brings the text-based Star Trek game from 1970s university mainframes to a home console: you command a lone warship and hunt an alien fleet across the galaxy before your time or energy runs out. There is no fast action at all, which makes it one of the few real strategy games on the system. You can play it here in your browser.

RealSports Football

RealSports Football is Atari’s 1982 American football game for the 2600, designed and programmed by Rob Zdybel. It belongs to Atari’s RealSports series and was Atari’s attempt to improve on its earlier, much simpler Football cartridge. You call plays, snap the ball and control one player on a five-a-side team, against the computer or a friend. You can play it here in your browser.
