“Beany Bopper” is an Atari 2600 shoot ’em up game developed by Sirius Software, a company based in California, and released by 20th Century Fox Games in 1982.
In this game, players take on the role of the “bopper,” depicted as a ball, navigating through a field dotted with rectangular barriers. The primary objective is to prevent “beanies” (named for their propeller beanie hats) from descending to the screen’s bottom. Players accomplish this by shooting the “beanies” with a stun gun capable of rotating a full 360 degrees, then physically touching them to capture. The game offers two modes: one where “beanies” cannot pass through obstacles, and another where they can. Additionally, objects periodically drop from the top of the screen, which players can collect for extra points. After capturing a certain number of “beanies,” “Bouncing Orange Eyes” appear and bounce through the playing area, posing a new challenge to avoid.
