How to play Gamma-Attack online
- Move your saucer: arrow keys
- Fire: Space bar
- Start a new game: F12 (the consoleās Reset switch)
Gameplay
According to the story, you command the last Gamma ship in the area, and the Vegan war fleet has taken over your outpost planet with laser pulse tanks. Your saucer moves in four directions but only fires diagonally downwards. Destroy all the tanks to move on to the next level. Each laser hit from a tank pushes your saucer lower, and the tanks come faster and from more directions as the game goes on. The manual also mentions an underground enemy fortress and an enemy mothership, but no player is known to have reached them, and they may never have been finished.
The gameplay is similar to Activisionās Laser Blast, which also has you flying over the ground and shooting down at tanks.
The story behind Gamma-Attack
Gammation was based in Ohio and mainly sold rapid-fire adapters for Atari joysticks by mail order. Gamma-Attack was advertised in Electronic Games magazine, but it sold very few copies and the company soon closed. The game was almost forgotten until 2008, when a collector found a copy in a large lot of Atari items. It was put up on eBay that year with a āBuy It Nowā price of $500,000 and did not sell. Guinness World Records later listed Gamma-Attack as the rarest video game. Esken himself later made a limited run of 100 signed reproduction cartridges, and the gameās code has been preserved, which is why you can play it here.
