About Atari 2600 Z-Tack

“Z-Tack” is an Atari 2600 shoot ’em up game developed by Onbase Co., based in Asia, and released under the Bomb label in 1983. In this game, players pilot an extraterrestrial spacecraft tasked with demolishing military bases concealed within city structures across six distinct urban landscapes. Critics gave the game mixed reviews, often referring to it as a reverse take on Imagic’s “Atlantis.”

In the gameplay, the player controls a UFO-like ship aiming to obliterate city bases to progress through levels. The game challenges players to dodge incoming missiles, including heat-seeking variants, and evade flying skulls. It features six unique cityscapes to navigate. “Z-Tack” offers both single-player and two-player modes, setting it apart as the antithesis of the 1982 game “Atlantis,” where the objective is to defend a city. (Z-Tack is based on Base Attack.)
