Allia Quest

Allia Quest is a homebrew space shooter for the Atari 2600, programmed by Igor Barzilai and published by Ebivision in 2001. It follows the classic fixed-screen shooter formula made popular by games like Activision's Megamania: your ship sits at the bottom of the screen and waves of aliens attack from above. It starts gently and gets hard quickly. You can play it here in your browser.

Gameplay

This is a one-player game. Each wave of aliens moves in its own pattern, and the trick is to learn how each type flies and attacks so you can pick them off before they reach you. The early waves are forgiving, but the difficulty rises steeply, so expect to spend some time learning the later waves.

About the cartridge

Allia Quest was released in small numbers at the Classic Gaming Expo in 2001, complete with a box, a manual and a limited-edition label. It was one of several Ebivision homebrews of that period, and reviewers on AtariAge rated it well.
