Atari 2600 Exocet, also known as Cruise Missile, is a shooting game released by Froggo. In the game, the player controls a UFO and aims to destroy various cannon towers on the ground and in underground tunnels. The game features eight moving and shooting directions controlled by the joystick and the red button for firing.
The game is divided into two parts: above ground and underground. There are two types of cannon towers above ground: high ones and low ones. Hitting the low one grants 20 points, and hitting the firing part of the higher one grants 50 points. After destroying 10 towers, an underground tunnel appears, and the player has three chances to enter the tunnel or continue above ground.
Inside the tunnel, the player can score 50 points by hitting a tower. As more towers are destroyed, the points awarded for hitting new towers increase, with the highest score being 360 points. Successfully passing through the tunnel without hitting any tower grants an additional 20 points. The tunnel narrows over time, and the firing speed of the towers doubles if the player stays in the tunnel after hitting 10 towers.
When the player hits a certain number of towers, the ground color changes from green to blue. During this phase, the player can earn one extra UFO by destroying 10 more towers. The maximum number of UFOs the player can accumulate is eight. After gaining all eight bonus points, the firing speed of the towers triples.
Exocet/Cruise Missile is a challenging and engaging game for Atari 2600 players, requiring precision and strategy to navigate through the levels and destroy the towers.
