Off Your Rocker is an Atari 2600 game designed for 1 to 4 players, where players take turns using the same joystick connected to the left joystick port. Scores are displayed in the four corners of the screen, with Player 1 and 2 scores in the upper left and right corners, and Player 3 and 4 scores in the lower left and right corners. The score flashes when it is the player’s turn. The difficulty switches are not used in this game, and the game select switch is used to choose the number of players.
The gameplay of Off Your Rocker is similar to the classic memory game “Simon.” When play begins, the player’s character will walk to the center of the screen. Once the character stops, the player should press the joystick button, and one of the four objects surrounding the character will light up. The player must then push the joystick in the direction of the lit object to signal a correct answer.
After a brief pause, two objects will light up in sequence, and the player must choose the correct ones by pointing the joystick at them in the order they appeared. The sequence will continue to grow, with the player having to remember and input three, four, and so on, objects in the correct order.
If the player makes an incorrect guess, they are considered “off their rocker,” and an ambulance will appear on-screen to take the character away. The game tests the players’ memory and reflexes, providing an engaging and challenging experience for all ages.
