Oscar’s Trash Race is an educational Sesame Street video game developed by the Children’s Computer Workshop and Atari for the Atari 2600 (Atari VCS) in 1983. The game is designed to teach young players basic counting and number recognition skills.
In the game, players control Oscar the Grouch as he collects trash from the street. The objective is to pick the numbered trash can that matches the number of items scattered across the street. Once the correct trash can is selected, players guide Oscar (walking inside his trash can) to collect the items and race back to the starting line before Slimey, the worm, reaches the other end of the screen.
As the game progresses and the levels become more challenging, it starts to rain, causing mud puddles to appear on the street. Players must help Oscar jump over these obstacles to continue collecting trash and racing against Slimey. The game offers a fun and engaging way for children to learn and practice their counting and number recognition skills.
