In Atari 2600’s Save the Whales, a group of whales is migrating from the Arctic Ocean to Baja for breeding purposes. Unfortunately, a whaling ship in the vicinity is targeting them. Your mission is to use your submarine to destroy the nets or harpoons, as well as the radioactive debris, in order to protect the whales.
Once the game begins, the whales will swim from left to right at the bottom of the screen. The ship will start launching nets or harpoons, based on the game settings, in an attempt to capture the whales. Your task is to aim and shoot at the nets from any direction. After several nets/harpoons have been deployed, radioactive debris will appear from the right side of the screen. Although the debris is too high to harm the whales, it can damage your submarine. Make sure to shoot the debris as well. If your sub is hit five times, the game will end. In a two-player mode, one player controls the submarine, while the other assumes the role of the whaling ship.
