Gameplay
Each screen, which the manual calls a frame, is a stack of clouds with the sun at the top. To clear it, the rabbit has to collect all the bonus objects (such as a carrot or a toothbrush) and all the eggs and dragons, then reach the sun before the bonus timer runs down to zero. Eggs do not stay eggs for long: they grow into large eggs and then into dragons, so you want to deal with them early. One cloud keeps moving, and landing on it takes careful timing.
The game runs through three frames in turn. Each time round, things get harder: some clouds disappear, one cloud comes and goes, the moving cloud gets shorter and faster, and eggs turn into dragons more quickly. You have three chances per game, plus one extra for completing the third frame. Springer is for one player only.
| Action | Points |
|---|---|
| Each jump onto the moving cloud | 5 |
| Egg | 30 |
| Large egg | 60 |
| Dragon | 80 |
Tips
- Go for the eggs first. They only get harder to handle once they hatch, and the manual tells you to get them before they change.
- Watch the moving cloud before you jump. Wait until it is right under or over you; a mistimed jump costs a chance.
- Keep an eye on the timer. Collecting everything is not enough; you still have to reach the sun before it hits zero.
- Remember the jump down. Dropping to a lower cloud with the down arrow is often quicker than walking around.
History
Springer was sold by Tigervision, the games label of Tiger Electronic Toys, under model number 7-006; the manual carries a 1982 copyright. AtariAge credits the game to a company called Software Electronics. It also appeared in Europe and in Brazil, where versions were sold as Espringer and Springter. AtariAge rates the North American cartridge as very rare.
