Bob Smith joined Atari in the late 1970s, where he programmed Video Pinball (1981), a pinball table modelled on Atari’s own Superman machine that sold around two million cartridges. In 1981 he left with Rob Fulop and Dennis Koble to found Imagic.
At Imagic he made four more games that are on the site. Star Voyager (1982), his first for the new company, is a first-person space battle inspired by Star Raiders. Riddle of the Sphinx (1982) is an Egyptian adventure that uses the console’s switches to manage an inventory. Dragonfire (1982) has a young prince stealing treasure from under a dragon’s nose; Smith released its source code into the public domain in 2003. Moonsweeper (1983) combines an orbital shooter with fast flights over moons to rescue stranded miners.
