John Allred programmed two of Atari’s 1983 arcade conversions for the 2600. Jungle Hunt, made with Mike Feinstein at General Computer Corporation (GCC), sends Sir Dudley Dashly through four jungle obstacles to rescue Lady Penelope. Pole Position, credited to Douglas Macrae, John Allred and Alan Hodgkinson, keeps the arcade racer’s qualifying lap and behind-the-car view, and it kept selling long after the 1983 crash.

Pole Position

Pole Position is the Atari 2600 version of Namco’s 1982 Formula One arcade racer, which became the highest-grossing arcade game in North America in 1983. Atari released the cartridge under licence from Namco in August 1983, with programming credited to Douglas Macrae, John Allred and Alan Hodgkinson. Jungle Hunt

Jungle Hunt is Atari’s 1983 home version of Taito’s 1982 arcade game. It was programmed for the Atari 2600 by Mike Feinstein and John Allred at General Computer Corporation (GCC). As the explorer Sir Dudley Dashly, you race through four jungle obstacles to rescue your wife, Lady Penelope, from two cannibals. Each scene needs a different skill, which keeps it varied.
