Developer: Data Age
Data Age was a small Atari 2600 publisher founded in California in April 1982. It soon settled in Campbell and launched that October with five cartridges at once: Encounter at L-5, Airlock, Bugs, Sssnake and Warplock. Despite heavy advertising the company did not last. It filed for bankruptcy in May 1983, one of the early casualties of the video game crash, and several of its games were also sold in Europe under the Game World label.
All eight of its 2600 releases are on the site. Journey Escape, starring the rock band Journey, was its big licensed title, and its weak sales hurt the company. Bugs and Encounter at L-5 are paddle shooters with unusual aiming, Sssnake has you firing outwards from the middle of the screen, and Airlock is a race to escape a sinking submarine. Frankenstein’s Monster (1983) drew comparisons with Pitfall!, and the list also includes Bermuda Triangle and Warplock.
