Release date: 1994
By 1994 Atari had stopped making the 2600, but hobbyists had begun writing their own software for it. This page holds one of the earliest of these homebrews: Sound X by Ed Federmeyer, released under the Hozer Video Games name. It is not a game but a tool for exploring the noises the console’s sound chip can make, and it marks the start of the homebrew era covered by our later year pages.
