Peter Penguin

Peter Penguin is a European PAL release by ITT Family Games from 1983. It is not an original game but a relabelled version of Frisco, a block-pushing game in the style of the arcade game Pengo that Home Vision also sold in Europe. The title screen carries only the credit "R.J.P.G." and the year 1983. You can play it here in your browser.

Gameplay

No manual for Peter Penguin itself is known, but a leaflet survives for another release of the same game, Square Game. Your little hero hunts for treasure in a maze of squares while monsters chase him. You clear a path by kicking squares away or breaking them. A kicked square that hits a monster scores points, and hitting more than one at once scores more. Pushing the three flashing squares into one row is worth 3,500 points and briefly stops the monsters, giving you time to destroy them. A magic square appears now and then and is worth touching for extra points. A monster that is only half knocked out can be finished off for more points, but it soon recovers and comes after you again.

Other versions

The same game appeared as Frisco from Home Vision, as Jagd auf Diamanten-Frisco from the German mail-order company Quelle, and as Square Game from Funvision. All of them seem to be PAL cartridges for the European market. Who R.J.P.G. were is still not known.
