Treasure Island

Treasure Island is a little-known PAL cartridge for the Atari 2600, sold under the Suntek label with the model number SS-026. It is not an original title: it is the same game that the company Home Vision released in Europe as Treasure Discovery, and that the German mail-order company Quelle sold as Kampf um die Schatzinsel ("Battle for Treasure Island"). You can play it here in your browser.

About Atari 2600 Treasure Island

How to play Treasure Island online

No instruction manual for any of the releases has turned up in the usual archives, so the controls below are the standard ones for a one-player joystick game rather than confirmed rules.

  • Move: arrow keys
  • Fire: Space bar
  • Start a new game: F12 (the console’s Reset switch)
  • Save and load: Ctrl + 0โ€“9 saves, Alt + 0โ€“9 loads

History

Suntek released a numbered series of PAL cartridges for the 2600, and most of them were existing games under new names. I.Q. Memory Teaser, for example, is Suntek’s release of I.Q. 180, and Walker also appeared as Guignol. Treasure Island follows the same pattern. The Home Vision release, Treasure Discovery, is dated to 1984. Beyond these names, very little about the game has been documented.
