How to play Challenge online
- Move the duck: arrow keys (up, down, left and right)
- Choose one or two players: F11 (the console’s Select switch); the number shows at the top right of the screen
- Start a new game: F12 (the console’s Reset switch)
- Save and load your progress: Ctrl + 0–9 saves to a slot, Alt + 0–9 loads it
Gameplay
The duck starts in the bottom right corner and has to reach the top left corner to move on to the next level. The route is blocked by walls, and the flashing ones cannot be walked through, so you have to find your way past them. Rodents move around the maze, and touching one costs a life.
You begin with six lives, shown at the bottom left, and each level has a time limit of six minutes. Getting past the first wall is worth 200 points and every wall after that is worth 100. The game ends when you lose your last life or the clock runs out.
Tips
- Watch the walls before you commit. Only the flashing walls are closed to you, so wait for a clear path instead of walking into a dead end next to a rodent.
- Six minutes is plenty. The timer is generous, so it is usually better to wait for a rodent to pass than to rush and lose a life.
Versions
Like many Funvision games, Challenge was sold under several labels. Besides the Funvision and Zellers cartridges there was a HES release, and the same game appeared as Mein Weg from the German mail-order company Quelle and as My Way. No programmer or release year is known for the original.
