Developer: Alan Miller

Alan Miller was one of Atari’s first Atari 2600 programmers. He wrote Surround, one of the nine games available when the console launched in 1977, followed by Basketball and Hangman in 1978. In 1979 he left Atari to help found Activision.
At Activision, Miller kept to sports and simulation. Tennis (1981) brought the angled court view of his Basketball to a sport he played himself, and Ice Hockey squeezed two-man teams into fast three-minute matches. StarMaster (1982) was a first-person space battle with energy and damage to manage, and by 1983 it was his most successful game. Robot Tank (1983) followed with tank battles through day and night, rain, snow and fog. The list also includes Checkers, one of Activision’s first four cartridges.
