Armor Ambush
Armor Ambush is a two-player tank battle released by Mattel Electronics under its M Network label in 1982. It was developed by APh Technological Consulting and programmed by Hal Finney, and it is the Atari 2600 version of…
Play ▸APh Technological Consulting was an outside company that developed games for Mattel Electronics, including the Intellivision game Frog Bog. When Mattel began selling Atari 2600 cartridges under its M Network label in 1982, several of those games were converted to the 2600, and APh is credited on a number of the conversions.
The site lists thirteen games under APh. The sports games are among the clearest credits: International Soccer, programmed by Kevin Miller, with its tilted view and scrolling pitch, and the two-player Super Challenge Football by Ken Smith and Super Challenge Baseball. Hal Finney programmed the tank battle Armor Ambush and designed Adventures of Tron, one of two Tron games here. The other, Tron: Deadly Discs, was converted by APh with Jeff Ronne and Brett Stutz as programmers.
For some titles on this list, such as Astroblast, Dark Cavern and Air Raiders, the APh credit could not be confirmed, and other sources give Mattel’s own programmers. Frogger, a Parker Brothers game, also appears here by mistake.
